St. Joseph Icon

An icon of St. Joseph will be the centerpiece of a special prayer service at St. Lawrence on Tuesday, May 7th following the 8:00AM Communion service. This prayer service is to honor St. Joseph and pray for his intercession in preserving, cultivating, and passing on the Catholic faith to future generations. It is sponsored by our Knights of Columbus Unity Council 12743.

How could I ever be worthy to receive Holy Communion?

If I choose to receive in the hand, is there a particular way I should do that?
First, the Church teaches that "special care should be taken to ensure that the host is consumed by the communicant in the presence of the minister, so that no one goes away carrying the Eucharistic species in his hand. If there is a risk of profanation, then Holy Communion should not be given in the hand to the faithful."  Moreover, the USCCB explains, "If Communion is received in the hand, the hands should first of all be clean. If one is right-handed, the left hand should rest upon the right. The host will then be laid in the palm of the left hand and then taken by the right hand to the mouth. If one is left-handed this is reversed. It is not appropriate to reach out with the fingers and take the host from the person distributing."  Finally, catechesis on the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and on reverential care for the sacred Host in the throne of one's hand is paramount, since even particles of the consecrated Host are the Body and Blood of Christ: "On the part of both the minister and the recipient, whenever the host is placed in the hand of a communicant there must be careful concern and caution, especially about particles that might fall from the hosts. The usage of communion in the hand must be accompanied by relevant instruction or catechesis on Catholic teaching regarding Christ's real and permanent presence under the eucharistic elements and the proper reverence toward this sacrament."

Quilts of Valor
We are compiling a list of service members or living veterans who served. If there is someone from our parish, either yourself or nominate someone, please click here for a Request Form as we would like to start presenting A Quilt of Valor® (QOV).  It is awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has served our country with bravery, honor and dedication. The Quilt says unequivocally, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.” St. Luke Sew Blessed Quilters of Slinger is grateful to have a group of women from surrounding churches that faithfully sew and make these beautiful quilts for our veterans. If there is anyone interested in joining them, you are more than welcome; please contact Donna Gross 262-707-5730. And if anyone is interested in helping the St. Luke Blessed Quilters defray costs for the Quilts of Valor for fabrics and supplies please place in the box marked Quilts of Valor.
