Annual Mass of Atonement

The annual Mass of Atonement will be held on April 29, 2024 at 6 p.m. at Holy Apostles Parish (16000 W National Avenue, New Berlin, WI 53151).  This Mass is one of the ways that the current leadership of the Archdiocese publicly atones for the clergy abuse crisis and scandal.  We invite you to join us in support of the survivors, family members, and communities that have spoken or unspoken stories of survival and pain.  If you are unable to attend, we would ask that you please remember all those that suffer from the wounds of abuse in your prayers for peace, healing, and justice. What do I do at Mass if I cannot receive Holy Communion?

We might not be in a state to receive Communion for various reasons-for example, not being in a state of grace, not being Catholic, or not having observed the one-hour fast before Communion.  In those circumstances, we still can make a spiritual communion, a prayer expressing our desire to receive Jesus in Holy Communion. Here is a traditional Act of Spiritual Communion that was written by St. Alphonsus Liguori:

My Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Most Holy Sacrament.  I love you above all things, and I desire to possess you within my soul.  Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as being already there and unite myself wholly to you.  Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

Also, some priests might invite people who cannot receive Holy Communion to come forward in the communion line to receive a blessing.

Quilts of Valor
We are compiling a list of service members or living veterans who served. If there is someone from our parish, either yourself or nominate someone, please click here for a Request Form as we would like to start presenting A Quilt of Valor® (QOV).  It is awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has served our country with bravery, honor and dedication. The Quilt says unequivocally, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.” St. Luke Sew Blessed Quilters of Slinger is grateful to have a group of women from surrounding churches that faithfully sew and make these beautiful quilts for our veterans. If there is anyone interested in joining them, you are more than welcome; please contact Donna Gross 262-707-5730. And if anyone is interested in helping the St. Luke Blessed Quilters defray costs for the Quilts of Valor for fabrics and supplies please place in the box marked Quilts of Valor.
